Let's Talk About The Second Issue
A new Writers' Room newsletter from BEING GORDY, A Situation Comedy
Happy Winter, Friends!
I hope you’re all staying warm. If I could fast forward to mid-March — longer daylight and the first thaw of Spring — I’d gladly do it.
I am happy to report that issue #2 of BEING GORDY, A Situation Comedy is well under way. I’m nearing completion of pencilling boards. Every day is a bullet-list of things to do to keep it all moving forward. I’m “in my zone” and I absolutely love it. The final cover art is done and I want to share it with you here and now …
The title of the second episode is “The Call Of My Ancestors.” The basic premise — Gordy takes an online genealogy test and is told he’s 98% Native American. So he quits his synagogue, tells his Rabbi to go to hell, and embraces his new life as one of the Indigenous People. And chaos ensues.
In this new episode we’ll see a quick glimpse into Gordy’s past. Way back in high school, he and his friends had a rock band called “Pasty White Jews.”
They were “the best thing to ever hit the Long Island Bar Mitzvah circuit (in our minds).” Those are actually my old friends Doug Geer and Rick Schiffman bookending the “group photo.” Both are great musicians — then and now. I’ll talk more about them both in a bit. And Pasty White Jews will return in a big way further down the road in the BEING GORDY universe, in an episode entitled “The Boys In The Band.”
It’s funny how this idea has blossomed. I’ve already had requests for a Pasty White Jews t-shirt. I haven’t done any BEING GORDY t-shirts yet, but they're coming for sure. Let me know your thoughts on this. If you feel you need a “PWJ 4-EVER!” t-shirt in your wardrobe, reply to this newsletter and make your voices heard.
This episode of BEING GORDY is inspired by and pays homage to an old classic sitcom I grew up watching in reruns — F-Troop. While situation comedies shot in front of a live studio audience are always my favorite medium, BEING GORDY is also be a love letter to ALL classic television. Believe it or not, I have episodes down the road that will pay tribute in some way to The Waltons, Downton Abbey, Star Trek, The Twilight Zone and — wait for it — The Dean Martin Celebrity Roasts. So “Stay Tuned!” for all that.
I’ll hopefully do a Kickstarter for issue 2 some time this Spring, and plan on releasing the book this Summer, most likely with a debut at Terrificon in August. (More on that below.)
In the near future you’ll start seeing an ad campaign across social media that promotes this issue. It’s an evolution of the campaign I did for the pilot issue. The best of those pieces will be turned into the next wave of mini-posters for sale online at beinggordy.com and live at comic conventions. Speaking of conventions …
2026 APPEARANCES (so far):
NorthEast Comic Con — March 13-15, Boxborough, MA
Billed as “The Cabin Fever Show”, come on out and say hello.
That’s Entertainment — Saturday, May 2nd, Worcester, MA
I was invited to join several other local artists in promotion of Free Comic Book Day. Born and raised in Worcester, this is a REALLY great store and I’m looking forward to this “homecoming” event.
Terrificon — August 7-9, Mohegan Sun Expo Center, Uncasville, CT
This is going to be the first big outing for BEING GORDY, A Situation Comedy and the hopeful debut of the second issue. Terrificon is one of my favorite shows, period. If you want a relaxing weekend of comic convention, gambling, great food (Frank Pepe’s Pizza … so good it’s ridiculous) and more, PLEASE come to this show.
Plastic City Comic Con — Saturday, Aug. 22nd, Leominster, MA
This is a local Massachusetts show focusing on independent comics that I first did last year, and LOVED it. It met some really great people there — both shoppers and artists alike. It’s a small con with a really great vibe. The show is produced by my friend and fellow comic creator Keith Gleason (Mighty Mastcots, Kid Switch). Speaking of Keith …

Keith Gleason also hosts this show with his friends and fellow creatives Johnny C (Surrounded By Death, Sartana), and Harry Gerostergios. I was just on this show as a guest earlier this week and I really love these guys. This is a good crew to watch and hang with online, so check them out.

Hosted by Mike Lopez, who also hosts some of the seminars at NorthEast Comic Con and other shows. Mike’s a fellow lover of classic television and a great guy to talk to and watch online. I was a guest on his show back in December:
Doug Geer
Doug was the guy on the far left of the Pasty White Jews “band photo.” I real life, Doug and I grew up together in Worcester, MA and has had a guitar stuck in his hand his entire life. While I was producing my pilot issue of BEING GORDY, Doug was busy at work on his first solo album “Songs 1-10.” Steel Notes Magazine refers to this album as “a hidden gem” and I’ll be happy the second that one. You can find Doug on Apple Music and Spotify, or at his site douggeer.com.
Rick Schiffman
Rick is the guy on the far right of the PWJ band photo. In real life, Rick and I also go WAY back growing up together in Worcester. High School, Hebrew School, summer camp — Rick and I have a lot of history. Rick can be seen performing across New England with one of his bands — August First, Allie’s Comet, and Highland Sound. August First can be found on all music platforms. Go check out Rick and his band for a solid night of music in March at …
DOWN THE ROAD …
Coming up I’ll showing previews of issue 3 and 4 of BEING GORDY, and more. Hope to see you all online or at a show. Stay warm and “Stay Tuned!”
